Making an Appointment? What to Expect
If you are scheduling a new patient appointment online, expect to receive a phone call from the homeopath within the week. He will confirm the time you have chosen, answer any questions you may have and ask for additional information if necessary.
Regardless of whether you schedule online or by phone, you will then get an email containing a lot of forms. Don't worry! There is only one long form you have to fill out. The others are consent forms, a client information form and a bunch of information for you, like our rates, office policies and directions to the office. (You can find most of these on the Patients page).
The long form is our "initial questionnaire." We email you a text version of this questionnaire, so you may fill it out on your computer, print it out and bring it with you to the appointment, or even fill it out by following this link.
Filling out this form, you may notice questions that have little to do with the reason for your visit. Because Homeopathy is an holistic approach to health, seemingly peripheral issues, like the quality of your sleep or foods you crave, may give us valuable clues for choosing the right homeopathic remedy. Thinking about such questions ahead of time will also prepare you for some of the things we'll be discussing during your appointment.
The Day of your Appointment
If your appointment is at the main office on Broad Street, we encourage you to park behind the office rather than on the busy street. There is a gravel parking lot, and the entrance to the office is there in the back of the building. If you are a few minutes early, don't worry, we have a small waiting room.
If your appointment is at Restoring Balance, you might want to glance through the directions sheet on our downloads page. Restoring Balance is located up the hill from New Hope Commons on the Straw Valley property (big sign). Park in the gravel lot and come on in the front door. There is a large waiting room where the homeopath will come to get you.
If your appointment is by videoconference, just call the office by phone at the time appointed: 919.275.5966.
How long will it take?
Usually, an acute appointment will last no longer than 30-40 minutes. With a truly acute complaint (something you caught), symptoms tend to be strong and easily described, and the homeopath only needs to know what ails you, where it ails you, what makes your ailing feel worse, what makes your ailing feel better and any unusual things that happen at the same time that you’re ailing.
Appointments for long-standing or complicated health problems last 1-2 hours. Besides the information above, the homeopath will want to understand in more depth how you experience your health complaints. He will also want to know what other health complaints you have or have had, and he will want to understand how your body functions generally.
After the Interview
After collecting all of this information, the homeopath may give you a remedy before you leave the office, or he may take a day to consider your case before coming up with a remedy.
Your homeopathic remedy is always included with your appointment. Because it’s a conflict of interest to prescribe things that we charge money for, we always provide remedies at no cost.
If you are doing a long-distance appointment by videoconference, the shipping to send you your first remedy is also free. After the first remedy, shipping costs $10 each time we send you a new remedy. A receipt for your payment and full instructions for taking the remedy will be included in your shipment.
Reporting your progress
Once you start a homeopathic remedy, we might ask you to fill out our online Patient Update after 2-3 weeks to make sure that you're getting some kind of response. As long as things are going well, we usually expect to have you back for your first followup after 4-6 weeks, depending on the nature of your health problems.
Followup appointments are scheduled for an hour, though they rarely take that long. And as soon as you begin responding well to a remedy, we can lengthen the intervals between followup appointments.
We look forward to meeting you!
